Jahns - Beverly Ruth Marie

Beverly Ruth Marie Jahns, 77, of Wabasha, formerly of Stewartville and Fillmore County, died July 7, 2004 at her home.

Beverly Ruth Marie Schunke was born May 14, 1927, in rural Wykoff, Fillmore County, grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wykoff High School. She attended Preston Normal School and taught in a rural school for a short time before her marriage. On June 2, 1946, she married Burton D. Jahns in Wykoff. They farmed in rural Spring Valley and, after moving to Stewartville in 1957, farmed in the High Forest area until 1981. She was a homemaker. In addition to farming, her husband worked at IBM for 30 years. They had lived in Wabasha since 2000. Mrs. Jahns was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha and was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville where she was active in ladies aid, religious education and served on a number of boards. She was a past member of the Stewartville American Legion Auxiliary and Lionesses Club.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Muriel (Ken) Gunderson of Racine and Miriam (Brian) Hovey of Wabasha; two sons, Duane of Racine and Dean (Carolyn) of Merrimack, N.H.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Gloria (Oryn) Harth of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and a brother, Dale (Ruth) Schunke of Tucson, Ariz. A brother preceded her in death.

A memorial service for Beverly Ruth Marie Jahns was July 10 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with Rev. Barbara Knutson of Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha and Rev. Ron Allen of Zion Lutheran co-officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.
