George N. Langstaff

George N. Langstaff, 88, of Lanesboro, a retired meat cutter, died Jan. 7, 2003 at Harmony Health Care Center, where he had lived since August 2000.

He was born April 16, 1914, in Warwick, N.D., and graduated from Tokio, N.D., High School in 1932. In 1934, he began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps No. 3771 in North Dakota, later worked with the CCC in Lanesboro, and was a cook and baker at both places. He then farmed in the Mabel and Rushford areas until moving to Lanesboro in 1956. Mr. Langstaff was a meat cutter at Solberg Fairway Grocery Store, Hanson’s IGA and later Brekke’s Village Foods until his retirement in 1995. On Sept. 6, 1936, he married Ruby Velde in Cresco, Iowa. He was a sports fan and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul (Cindy) of Austin; a daughter, Barbara (David) Campbell of Lanesboro; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John of Devils Lake, N.D., and Patrick of Sheyenne, N.D.

The funeral for George N. Langstaff was Jan. 11, 2003 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lanesboro, with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro was in charge of arrangements.
