Rud - Tinka Christine

Tinka Christine Rud, 89, of Spring Grove, died March 15, 2004 at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove.

Tinka Christine Bergrud was born Feb. 25, 1915, in Spring Grove and lived in the area all her life. She taught in rural Iowa schools and at Allamakee Community School in Dorchester, Iowa, for more than 30 years until her retirement in 1981. In 1972, she received a bachelor of arts degree from Winona State University. During the 1991-92 school year, she received the American Education Week-Citizens Recognition Award. On June 30, 1935, she married Gilman O. Rud. He died Aug. 25, 1985. Mrs. Rud was a member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church, where she was Sunday school superintendent and held a number of other offices, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Spring Grove Garden Club. At the 1998 Syttende Mai celebration, she was named Mest Hoyaktet Dame (Most Honored Lady).

Survivors include four sons, Loren (Marcia), Darryl (Lorraine), Dennis (Jan) and Mark (Kari), all of Spring Grove; four daughters, Joycelyn (Carlyn) Rostad, Darlene (Ron) Dix and Judy (Gerald) Bratland, all of Spring Grove, and Lorna (Milton) Myhre of Chanhassen, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four sisters, Hazel Lundberg and Orpha (Leland) Weymiller, both of Spring Grove, Mavis (Earl) Arneson of Highlandville, Iowa, and Wanda (Eldon) Smith of Mabel. A sister and a brother preceded her in death

The funeral for Tinka Christine Rud was March 19, 2004 at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, with the Rev. Arndt Braaten officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove was in charge of arrangements.
