Edward Walter Kozlowski

Edward Walter Kozlowski, 89, of North Branch, Minn., husband of Elsie S. Paulson, formerly of Lanesboro, died August 17, 2003 at Green Acres Country Care Center in North Branch.

He was born March 29, 1914, in Bay City, Mich. His family moved to rural Nicollet, Minn., where he grew up. While working in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he met Elsie S. Paulson of Lanesboro, and on Nov. 7, 1936, they were married in St. Paul. They made their home in St. Paul for several years and then in White Bear Lake, Minn., until moving to Stacy, Minn., in 1962. Mrs. Kozlowski died Jan. 25, 2000. Mr. Kozlowski entered the U.S. Army in 1943, served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked in road construction, including working on the Alcan Highway, and worked in Iceland and Greenland building air strips. He also worked at Taystee Bread Co. and as a machinist. He was self-employed doing home improvement projects, had E & E Tree Farm and was a real estate agent. He was a 55-year member of the American Legion and a 51-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Rochelle (Darrel “Bucky”) Thomford of Zumbrota; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death.

The memorial service was August 23, 2003 at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, with the Rev. Wayne Radke officiating. A private family burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.
