Kenneth Fred Henry Niemeyer

Kenneth Fred Henry Niemeyer, 77, of Wykoff, died Jan. 4, 2003 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 15, 1925, in rural Wykoff, the son of Armin and Ella (Meisner) Niemeyer. He attended Wykoff schools and worked on his parents’ farm until his marriage to Betty Burns on July 28, 1949, in Preston. The couple made their home in rural Wykoff, where they farmed. He also worked for Schroeder Mining Co., Tuohy Furniture and Kappers Construction. He retired because of illness in 1996, and the couple moved to Wykoff.

He played the accordion in area bands most of his adult life, including the Farmers Union Band in Wykoff, the Original Blue Denim Farmers for 25 years and the Whitewater Melody Men for 11 years. He was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He served on the Fillmore Township Board as treasurer for 34 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Kelvin (Linda) of Spring Valley, Bob (Betty) of Wykoff and Bill (Kathy) of Chatfield; three daughters, Cheryl (Dick) Dodds of Craig, Colo., Cindy (Neal) Hinners of Spring Valley and Barb (Chip) Hampel of Chatfield; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Marlene) of Spring Valley; and two sisters, Dorothy (Kelly) Simpson of Spring Valley and Rita (Roland) Kohlmeyer of Fountain. He was preceded in death by infant twin daughters and a sister.

The funeral for Kenneth Fred Henry Niemeyer was Jan. 8, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with the Rev. Donald Flaten officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
