Marjorie Helena Broadwater, 78, of rural Spring Valley, a homemaker and retired bank teller, died Dec. 9, 2002 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of complications of a stroke.
Marjorie Helena Leland was born June 10, 1924, in Beaver Township, Fillmore County, to Peter E. and Alpha M. Leland. She attended a rural Harmony grade school and later Sample School south of Ostrander. In 1986, she received her GED in Rochester. From 1942 to 1946, she worked at Ostrander State Bank, first as a teller and later as assistant cashier. On April 10, 1946, she married Raymond Steven Broadwater in Beaver Township. They moved to their current farm in 1946. Mrs. Broadwater worked at Waters-Conley in Rochester from 1964 to 1967 and then at Control Data in Spring Grove until the spring of 1969. On July 1, 1970, she began working at First National Bank of Spring Valley and continued there until her retirement in 1993 as head teller. She was a member of Root River Church of the Brethren and enjoyed cooking, baking, flower and vegetable gardening, and church activities.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Lynn (Migon) of Rochester, Lloyd (Alethea) of Kellogg, Gary (Carol) of Spring Valley and Charles of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Gayla Hall of Wabasha; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Hazel (Milford) Berg of Ostrander. She was preceded in death by two infant brothers and a half brother.
A memorial service for Marjorie Helena Broadwater was Dec. 13, 2002 at Root River Church of the Brethren in rural Preston, with the Rev. Frances Townsend officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Prairie Queen Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
