Juan "Joe" Moen, 70, of Preston, longtime owner of Moen Milk Hauling, died February 2, 2003 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1932, in Ettrick, Wis., the son of Anton and Laura (Tranberg) Moen. He lived in the Ettrick area until joining the Army in 1952. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, served overseas in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and was discharged in 1957 with the rank of staff sergeant. He married Marga M. Neef on Oct. 4, 1956, in Kaiserslautern, and they moved to the United States on March 28, 1957. He worked on the Francis and Leonard Stoskopf farm near Harmony for two years before moving to Preston in 1959. He bought a milk route from Paul Ristau, and then owned and operated Moen Milk Hauling for the next 35 years. Mr. Moen was a member of the Preston VFW and American Legion posts and Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, hunting, water skiing, playing cards, and collecting antique cars and tractors.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Ostby and Margo (John) Moen-Fahrenholtz, both of Chatfield; a son, Manfred (Debbie) of Bullhead City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Allen of Ettrick.
The funeral was held Feb. 6, 2003 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, with the Rev. Jim Rushton officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, with military graveside rites. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
