Lyle T. McNamara, 79, of rural Spring Valley, a farmer, died March 31, 2003 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he had been a patient since Thursday.
Born Feb. 13, 1924, in Jordan Township, Fillmore County, he grew up on the family farm and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1942. On May 31, 1949, he married Mary Ellen Yetter at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Racine. His wife is a homemaker. The couple farmed on the family farm in Jordan Township all their married lives. A longtime member of Sumner Center United Methodist Church, he served as a trustee, financial secretary and on the cemetery board. He was third baseman for the Sumner Cub's fast-pitch softball team, enjoyed playing cards and was a Minnesota Twins fan.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Patricia "Pat" LaRose of Winder, Ga.; four sons, Joseph (Cindy), Glen (Jean) and Wayne, all of Spring Valley, and John (Karen) of Rochester; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A sister and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
The funeral was April 4, 2003 at Sumner Center United Methodist Church in rural Racine, with the Rev. Victoria Ashley officiating. Burial was in Sumner-Millett Cemetery in rural Racine. Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville was in charge of arrangements.
