Mickey - James Brice

James Brice Mickey, 84, of Mission, Texas, formerly of the Hesper and Decorah, Iowa areas, died Oct. 23, 2004 at his home in Mission.

He was born July 31, 1920 in Calhoun, Iowa, to James and Eunice (Girton) Mickey. He lived in Hesper for many years before moving to Mission 16 years ago. He and his wife, the former Delores Marie Gasner, were married for 58 years. They operated Banner Stock Farm of Hesper for 45 years. They retired to Decorah, Iowa, in 1985 and later, for health reasons, moved to the Rio Grande Valley. Mr. Mickey belonged to many farm-related organizations, held a number of leadership offices, and had received many district and state awards related to the agricultural industry. He had been active member in Lutheran churches in Texas and Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheryl (Larry) Falcon of Tustin, Calif.; a son, John (Dawn) Mickey of Castlewood, S.D.; three grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Wiederholt of Northfield, Minn., Mary Bartlett of Madison, Wis., and Donna (Kenneth) Rohwer of Dodge Center. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Harlan and Dwight Mickey.

A memorial service was held Oct. 26, 2004 at the Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A private graveside service will be held at Hesper Lutheran Cemetery in Hesper, Iowa. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with local arrangements.
