Pheasants Forever offering first ‘Hunting for a Cure’

AUSTIN, Minn. – Pheasant hunters will come together in early October for a new fundraiser in LeRoy, Minn. to raise support for The Hormel Institute’s world-renowned breast cancer research.

Mower County Pheasants Forever, of Austin, and the Tri-County Pheasants Forever, based in Rochester, Minn., are joining Three Arrows Hunting Preserve in rural LeRoy to offer the first “Hunting for a Cure” breast cancer awareness hunt on Saturday, October 5. Registration involves setting a two-hour hunting slot at Three Arrows from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $100 to hunt, which includes four birds released per person, a shirt and meal.

Proceeds from “Hunting for a Cure” will go 100 percent toward directly funding cutting-edge breast cancer research at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota-Mayo Clinic, in Austin.

Each hunter will get a two-hour guided hunt at Three Arrows. Dogs will be available but hunters may bring their own dog. Volunteers will clean all of the birds.

Following the hunt, a “Hunting for a Cure” banquet will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Travel Lanes in LeRoy. Cost is $20 per person, including games, food, giveaways, raffles and more.

Event organizer Darren Ewy came up with the idea for “Hunting for a Cure” with Ben Jacobsen, owner of Three Arrows, and they plan to make it an annual event. They thought it would be a great way to connect Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the start of pheasant hunting season – both in October – while supporting Pheasants Forever’s mission for land conservation, Ewy said.

“This gets people outdoors and involved with pheasant hunting while also promoting breast cancer awareness,” Ewy said. “This is a win-win for a large group of people.”

Registration for the hunt and banquet is available on the www.tricountymnpf.com website by clicking on the “Hunting for a Cure” logo. Donations also can be made through that online link.

The Hormel Institute continues to make progress in the fight against breast cancer and other forms of cancer through its aggressive research and use of cutting-edge, state-of-the-art technology to accelerate discoveries, Executive Director Dr. Zigang Dong said.

“All of us at The Hormel Institute are very grateful to have this high level of faith and trust in our work from everyon .....
