On Monday, January 18th, Fillmore Central hosted the first Math Wizard's meet of the season. Math Wizards is an academic competition for fifth and sixth grade students. Schools from around the area, including Kingsland, Mabel/Canton, Lanesboro, and Spring Grove were invited to participate in the meet. The competitions consist of three rounds. The first round is similar to a fact drill. During the second round, students work on their own, taking two separate tests of word problems. The final round is a team round where five students work together to answer the questions. Medal winners of the first meet included: Kurtis Hershberger, Haley Ostrom, Gabrielle Shupe, Allison Coyle, and Riley Means. One of Fillmore Central's sixth grade teams took second place over all. Our next meet is February 8th at Spring Grove.
