School Readiness Program

Tue, Mar 23rd, 2010
Posted in Education

We are happy to invite you to attend Fillmore Central's 2010-2011 School Readiness Program for children 3/4 and 4/5 years of age.

School Readiness offers a preschool experience to students that are 3-5 years of age. The 3/4 year olds have three options: Monday/Wednesday session or a Tuesday/Thursday session. These sessions both meet 8:15am - 10:15am, and transportation is provided for the Monday/Wednesday session only. Our third option for this age group is "new." Preschool Plus offers parents and children three years of age an alternative to our 3/4 school readiness/preschool program. The idea is to give a child a taste of school with their parent/caregiver, and provide information on our school, parenting tips and other relevant topics. This class will meet on Friday mornings, 8:15am- 10:15am.

Our 4/5 year old classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is a morning class from 8:15 to 11:15 and an afternoon class from 12:10-3:10. Transportation is offered for our morning class only.

The primary goal of school readiness is to welcome students to the school setting and help them feel comfortable in a classroom when they enter Kindergarten. Play time is an essential part of our program. Play time provides many opportunities for students to grow in conversational skills, imagination, social skills (such as getting along with others), as well as fine and gross motor skills.

We also have structured activities that focus on a standard from our curriculum, Core Knowledge Curriculum. Activities are usually hands-on and cover a wide range of abilities including cutting, writing, coloring, role playing, retelling stories, and learning colors, shapes and letters.

School Readiness Staff:

•4/5Lead Teacher: Erin Becker

•3/4 Lead Teacher: Tara Corson

•Special Education Teacher: Connie Berg

•4/5Classroom Assistant: Angie Haugerud

•4/5 Classroom Assistant: Janeen Wingert and Jessica Marzolf

Americorp Staff: Kelly Hill

Paraprofessional: Jen Lindstrom

Please contact us for registration materials so we can register your child for Fillmore Central's 2010-2011 School Readiness Program. We will enroll your child in the order we receive your registration. We do have a few spaces available, so please register soon. There will also be an opportunity to meet the teacher and visit the classroom during our school's open house in August.
