Raquel Ann Marlow, 36, of Cresco, was sentenced by Judge Robert Benson in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, January 8, 2007, to 15 months in prison with a stay of execution for 10 years, after pleading guilty to one felony count of theft by check.
According to court documents, between June 2003 and June 2004, Marlow altered payroll checks in the amount of $4932 from her Mabel employer. In addition, Marlow made unauthorized phone calls totalling $303.
In addition to probation, Marlow was ordered by Judge Benson to serve 90 days in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, make restitution totalling $5,314.72 and write a letter of apology. She must also undergo a money management program.
Marlow was represented in court by public defender Fred Suhler, Jr.
Felony Charges
William John Nielsen, 19, of Spring Valley, was charged in District Court to one felony count of criminal damage to property regarding an incident in Spring Valley on December 2, 2006.
According to the criminal complaint, it is alleged that Nielsen drove his vehicle recklessly through town knocking over street signs and mailboxes. Damages were estimated at between $2,500 and $3,000. At the time of his arrest, Nielsen's blood alcohol level was .190.
In addition to the felony charges, Nielsen is also charged with several misdemeanors, including obstructing the legal process, driving while impaired, open bottle, underage drinking and driving and reckless driving.
Nielsen was released on his own recognizance by Judge Robert Benson. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 26, 2007.
