Spring Valley man charged with growing marijuana

Felony Charges
Jeffrey Steven Sveen, 29, of Spring Valley, was charged in Fillmore County District Court on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, with possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
According to court records, the Southeast Minnesota Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant of Sveen's residence and discovered a grow operation, with four mature potted marijuana plants. It is alleged that these belonged to Sveen, as did 23 marijuana seedlings. Authorities also discovered 123 grams of marijuana.
Judge Robert Benson released Sveen on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance on October 20, 2008.
Ryan Daniel Afseth, 23, of Preston, was charged in District Court on Wednesday, August 8, 2008, with felony theft.
According to the criminal complaint, it is alleged that Afseth failed to return a Rug Doctor cleaner to the Harmony Foods grocery store. The equipment is valued at over $1000.
Judge Robert Benson released Afseth on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.
Felony Sentencing
Seth Richard Oeltjen, 23, of Rochester, was sentenced on August 12, 2008, in District Court to five years probation after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance, Ecstasy. He also pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
According to court records, on February 8, 2008, a sheriff deputy stopped to assist Oeltjen whose car was pulled over on a low maintenance road. The officer smelled alcohol and a routine check of the vehicle turned up the controlled substance.
Judge Robert Benson stayed adjudication of sentencing for five years and ordered Oeltjen to pay a $3000 fine and serve 30 days in jail, with credit for seven days served.
Brett Harvey Enger, 48, of Chatfield, was sentenced on August 13, 2008,in District Court to 10 years probation after pleading guilty to identity theft, a felony.
According to court documents, in January 2006 Enger used his brother's social security number to obtain five credit cards which he then used to purchase $21,000 in merchandise.
Judge Benson sentenced Enger to 366 days in jail, but stayed sentencing for 10 years. He also ordered Enger to pay $50 fine and serve 200 hours of community service. Enger must pay restitution of over $18,000 to three credit card companies.
Benson also ordered Enger not to use the internet or engage in gambling acti .....
