Steven Clifford Johnson, a 28-year old male from Chatfield, appeared before Judge Robert R. Benson in District Court Tuesday, May 25, 2010, facing one count of controlled substance crime in the fifth degree, possession; one count of possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all three counts, Johnson could face up to five years in prison, 90 days in county jail and fines amounting to $11,300.00.

On May 21, 2010, Officer Steve Schmiedeberg from Chatfield responded to a residence in Chatfield, along with Fillmore County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Fuglestad, in an attempt to locate Mr. Johnson regarding a harassment issue. While at the residence, they noticed a parked pickup and recognized it as one Johnson was known to drive. Upon closer inspection, they discovered the defendant asleep on the driver's side. The officers awakened Mr. Johnson and after talking with him for a few minutes realized he seemed nervous and fidgety, so they decided to do an even closer inspection of the vehicle. At this time they discovered a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. They also found Mr. Johnson in possession of methamphetamine and a glass pipe used for smoking meth. The defendant was transported to the Fillmore County Jail in Preston. Judge Benson set condition bail at $3,000 and unconditional bail at $10,000. Mr. Johnson's next court appearance has been set for June 1, 2010.
