Blue Collar Diaries at Commonweal Theatre

Fri, Jul 30th, 2010
Posted in Arts & Culture

LANESBORO, MINN. - The Commonweal Theatre, located in historic downtown Lanesboro, hosts its first "Commonweal Presents: One Woman Show Series" event - Blue Collar Diaries - on Tuesday, August 10th and Wednesday, August 11th at 7:30 pm. Written and performed by Michelle Myers Berg, Blue Collar Diaries offers a glimpse of some of the memorable characters that drifted through a St. Paul blue-collar neighborhood in the 1960's and 70's. Myers Berg embodies 20 different characters while dealing with rival siblings, wacky neighbors, and the mysterious silence of her Korean War-veteran father.

This original one-woman show premiered at the 2008 Minneapolis Fringe Festival and was developed into a full-length production at the History Theatre in St Paul in 2009. Named a Top Ten in 2009 by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, critic Dominic Papatola writes, "Myers has both a keen memory and a facility for bringing these characters to life with her voice, carriage and an item or two of clothing. Sensitive yet clear-eyed, Blue Collar Diaries pays homage to a host of unsung heroes."

Tickets for this limited run are on sale now at the Commonweal Theatre Box Office. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-657-7025 or emailing to tickets@commonwealtheatre.org, or by stopping in to the theatre located at 208 Parkway Ave N in downtown Lanesboro. Prices are $15 for adults, and $10 for students, Commonweal Theatre Season Pass holders, or members of Commonweal Theatre's Million Dollar Club.

This fall, "Commonweal Presents" will also bring Passions of the HouseFrau, performed by Bess Whelden; Lessons from Cancer College, performed by Kristen Underwood; and Min Mor ("Mother"), performed by Benta Borsum to the stage of the Commonweal Theatre for limited runs. For more details, including information about schedules, tickets, and other Commonweal programs, visit www.commonwealtheatre.org or call the box office at 1-800-657-7025.
