Pickle It Day at Historic Forestville

Mon, Aug 15th, 2011
Posted in Arts & Culture

In the days before the turn of the last century, pickling, canning, and preserving were more than a way of getting a feel for the past and saving a little money at the grocery store. It was a way of survival and a means of sustenance through the long winter to come. Join us at Historic Forestville for a day of interpretation and hands-on experience with the old style methods of preserving fresh garden produce. Observe or help in the pickling and canning of the heirloom bounty including peppers, cucumbers, beets, onions, and more! All historic variety frown in the Meighen summer garden.

Join us on Saturday, August 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Historic Forestville, located within the Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park, 21899 County Road 118, Preston, MN 55965. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for youth, and 5 and under are free. Contact John Grabko, the Site Supervisor Historic Forestville at 507-765-2785 for more information.
