Heart Strings Harp Circle concert benefitting the Lanesboro Public Library

Mon, Oct 27th, 2014
Posted in Lanesboro Arts & Culture

The Heart Strings Harp Circle, members say, is about having fun making music.

This group of area harpists will present a varied program of music especially for harps on Tuesday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level dining room, next to the Lanesboro Public Library in the Lanesboro Community Center. Everyone is welcome and admission is free, with donations for the Friends of the Lanesboro Public Library accepted at the door. After the concert, refreshments will be served and concert goers will be invited to try their hands at playing a harp.

“Heart Strings is unusual in that it has no director; it’s very democratic. We pick whatever pieces of music we like to play. Our playlist is varied: anything from ‘America the Beautiful’ to dance music from the Renaissance,” says Eliza Mitchell, a Circle member who lives in the Lanesboro area. These musicians have played in a variety of venues, from churches to arts centers to nursing homes and private homes. “I always feel so lucky to have the opportunity to play with this Circle,” says Mitchell. “It’s one of the very best things in my life.”

The Friends of the Lanesboro Public Library provides funds for special library needs, including purchasing equipment and books, paying for internet use fees, and helping with Summer Reading Program activities and other special events held at the library throughout the year.

For more information about this event, check out Heart Strings Harp Circle on Facebook, or visit the library’s website: www.lanesboro.lib.mn.us, or call the Library: (507) 467-2243.
