Facilities Committee votes 8-1 for new courthouse

A citizenís advisory committee voted 8-1, Thursday, in favor of building a new Fillmore County courthouse instead of proceeding with extensive remodeling of the existing building.

The consensus of the committee was that the preferred location for a new building be on county property near the jail. The advantages of this location would be that all county buildings would be located in a common campus that would share parking, maintenance personnel and equipment. It was also felt that it would be easier for the public to do business between various departments.

In another motion, the committee voted 9-0 to recommend abandoning plans to construct a new elevator in the existing courthouse until the Board makes a decision regarding the overall question of remodeling or building.

The citizenís committee was appointed by the County Board in July to study and make recommendations regarding courthouse remodeling.

At its next meeting the committee will look at long-term plans for the county jail and the highway shop.

This is a story about survivors.

No, it is not about the gameshow/psychodrama that was recently portrayed on CBS, where neurosis is a developmental skill highly valued by artificially created tribal groups.
