Louis William Schmidt

Louis Schmidt, 92, of Wykoff, died Monday, October 16, 2000 at the Ostrander Nursing Home where he had resided for the past two years.

Louis was born April 14, 1908 in rural Jordan Township, Fillmore County, the son of William and Louise (Roda) Schmidt. He attended Jordan grade school and graduated from Wykoff High School in 1927. He worked at Wendorf Cornerstore before returning to the family farm. On October 22, 1930, he married Iona Affeldt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff.

He served on the Boards of Jordan Township, Wykoff Creamery, Immanuel Lutheran Church and was Mayor of Wykoff. He drove school bus and was a substitute rural letter carrier for 37 years. In 1968 Louis and Iona moved to Wykoff. He was a member of the Wykoff Community Club and helped organize the first community auction.

Louis is survived by his wife Iona, four sons, Allen (Betty) of Wykoff, Harlan (Lil) of Wykoff, Loren (Sharon) of Spring Valley and Myron of Wykoff and one daughter, Marion Farmer of Rochester; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, one great-grandson, two brothers and six sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Schmidt was held Friday, October 20, 2000 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Wykoff. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
