Raymond Finke

Raymond John Finke, age 95, of Cherry Grove, died Wednesday, December 27, 2000, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Raymond was born January 9, 1905, at Wealthwood, MN, the son of Emil and Mabel (Michener) Finke. He moved with his family to the Cherry Grove area as a child and attended Spring Valley High School. He married Jessie Hebrink on July 26, 1923 in Wykoff. The couple farmed in the Cherry Grove and Spring Valley areas and also ran a portable custom saw mill. They sold their farm in 1981, but continued to live on the farmstead where they had resided since 1942. Jesse died July 13, 1985. Raymond moved to Cherry Grove in 1989 and then the Chosen Valley Care Center in October 2000. He was a lifelong member and the oldest member of the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church, and was the country manager for the Archer Oil Co. and McNess Feed.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth of Douglas, WY; John and Bernis of Cherry Grove; Paul and June of Boyton Beach, FL; and Lucille Finke of Mounds View, MN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma “Terry” Hur of Houston, TX; and Beth and Eugene Mulhern of Spring Valley; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Loyal Brusse of Canton; and one sister-in-law, Audre Finke of Chatfield.

He was preceded in death by one son, Russell; great-grandson Bradley Mulhern; three brothers, Herb, Don and Emerson.

The funeral for Raymond Finke was held Saturday, December 30, 2000 at the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
