DNR Conservation Officer Jeff Fleming is seeking the public's help in providing any information regarding a tire dumping incident in Fillmore County. Fleming is investigating the dumping of an estimated 125 tires near an abandoned school house along a stretch of the West River Road, four miles west of Granger. The remote location is near the Iowa - Minnesota border.

Fleming believes that the tires came from a commercial operation that pays to process tires, or from an operator who is in the business of junking cars, where the tires are stripped off. The tires consist of passenger car tires, pickup tires and semi-trailer tires. Many of the tires have mud on them which could indicate that they had been stored outdoors for some time. There were no farm tires in the bunch, although Fleming doesn't rule out that the tires could have come from a farm.

The tires were hauled to the site in a tandem axle truck. Fleming believes that the person who dumped the tires was familiar with the remote location and that the tires were probably dumped at night.

Fleming hopes that someone may have seen an unusual number of tires being loaded onto a truck recently, or have seen a truck carrying tires in the vicinity of the Granger area. Anyone with this information or any other knowledge about the dumping incident are asked to call Fleming at 507-765-2724 or the Fillmore County Sheriff's office at 507-765-3874.

If convicted of illegally dumping tires in Fillmore County, a person would face gross misdemeanor criminal charges as well as civil penalties of $20 per tire.
