Gerald "Jerry" Samuels

Gerald "Jerry" Samuels, 66, of Chatfield, a retired Post-Bulletin employee, died April 5, 2001at his home following a brief illness.

He was born July 14, 1934, in Barron, Wis., and graduated from Barron High School in 1952. On July 3, 1953, he married Mary Ann Coon in Barron, and they lived in Barron until moving to Chatfield in 1955. Mr. Samuels worked at the Barron County News Shield, later at the Chatfield News and then as a printer at the Post-Bulletin in Rochester for 32 years before his retirement in 1993. He was secretary-treasurer for the International Typographical Union local for many years. He assisted at the Chosen Valley Veterinary Clinic in Chatfield.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Pamela (Rick) Duarte of Sacramento, Calif., Peggy (Jim) England of Las Vegas and Patrice (Kevin) Bell of Golden Valley, Minn.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Marilyn) Heil of Keewatin, Minn., and Allan (Cookie) Heil of Two Harbors, Minn.; and three sisters, Joyce (Ronnie) Hart of Silver Bay, Minn., Paula (Tom) Melvin of Dillworth, Minn., and Donna (Randy) Brenna of Two Harbors. A brother preceded him in death.

The funeral for Gerald "Jerry" Samuels was held April 9, 2001 at Chatfield Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Christine Finsand officiating. Spring burial will be in Chatfield Cemetery. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
