Ray Harvey Thompson

Ray Harvey Thompson, 81, of Pilot Mound Township, rural Chatfield, a longtime area farmer, died Dec. 25, 2001 at his home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Pilot Mound Township, Fillmore County, and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1937. On Sept. 3, 1953, he married Vivian Engle at North Prairie Lutheran Church parsonage. Mr. Thompson lived on the family century farm in Pilot Mound Township all his life, farming first with his father and later with his son until May. He was a charter member of the Chatfield Brass Band and the Bucksnort Symphony, and was the leader of Tiny Ray and His Boys of Swiss swing orchestra. He was an agent and director for Spring Valley Mutual Insurance, a clerk for Pilot Mound Township for 27 years and was active in the Farm Bureau. A lifelong member of Pilot Mound Lutheran Church, he served as its janitor for more than 55 years, taught Sunday school, served on the cemetery board and was active in Lutheran Men in Mission.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra (Ken) Hess of Albuquerque, NM; a son, Robert (Kathie) of Pilot Mound; and four grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral for Ray Harvey Thompson was Dec. 28, 2001 at Pilot Mound Lutheran Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
