Keith A. Hagen , 78, of O'Fallon, Mo., a former Spring Valley business leader, died February 2, 2002 at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Jordan Township, Fillmore County, the son of Rolf and Edna (Howe) Hagen. Keith grew up in the area and graduated from Spring Valley High School. On May 28, 1950, he married Kathy Lindsay in Amboy, Minn. They lived in Spring Valley until moving to St. Peters, Mo., in 1997. In 1944 he began working for Home Federal Savings and Loan in Spring Valley, held the positions of bookkeeper, teller, accountant and loan officer, and later was corporate secretary, executive vice president and president. In 1988 he retired as president and from 1988 to 1995 was chairman of the board. When Home Federal became a publicly traded company in 1994, he was named chairman of HMN Financial Inc. and served in that capacity until 1995. He also was an officer of Osterud Insurance Agency Inc., and was director emeritus for Home Federal Savings Bank and HMN Financial Inc.

Mr. Hagen was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was involved in the building and restoration projects at Willow Park, Spring Valley Mausoleum, Hillside Homes senior living complex and Faith United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Star City Development Corp., and was named Kiwanis Citizen of the year

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sally Hagen (Dan Koch) of St. Charles, Mo. Lisa (David) Fitzler of Foristell, Mo., and Amy Hagen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren; a brother, Gareth (Catherine) of San Jose, Calif.; and a sister, Gweneth Hagen of San Francisco. A son and a brother preceded him in death.

The funeral was held Feb. 6, 2002 at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. William Rowen officiating. Burial was in Washington Cemetery in rural Spring Valley. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangments.
