To the Editor,

The Lanesboro Historical Preservation Association favors the saving of the old bridge because this is an item of historical value. It will be an added site for those seeking historical treasures.

The museum is asking for volunteers to help man the building during the tourist season, so we will be able to keep it open more hours.

To the Editor,

I for one am voting no on the school referendum on April 23.

If it passes my family will probably have to move out of the area because we will not be able to afford the taxes on our home. I was living in Winona when they shoved that referendum down our throats. There is a bigger tax base there to cover the costs. People will not be encouraged to move here if they can't afford to buy a house because of the taxes. Quality of education will bring people in, but quality education does not come from a building. It comes from good teachers and good materials. I would like to see evidence that new buildings have increased test scores, reduced the drop out rate or increased the number of graduates that enrolled in college. If you really want to see what can happen with old building renovation, go to Winona State and walk thru Somsen hall. It is the oldest building on campus but it houses the entire computer network for the university. It is a very nice building and well kept up. One problem I have is that the school officials go ahead and buy land before a school is even voted on. It is a devious thing to do. There were no studies about where to build. No one voted on a site. There was no choice on the part of the people who are asked to pay for the school. Who benefited from the sale of that property? With all the deception that went on in Winona, I can't help wondering if we are being deceived here too. I would rather have more technology, more materials and more teachers than a new building. These are som .....
