Gene R. Neis

Gene R.Neis, 60, of Chatfield, owner of Gene's Pest Control, died April 26, 2002 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield following a lengthy illness. He had lived at the care center since April 28, 1997.

Born Jan. 2, 1942, in Osage, Iowa, he also lived in a number of other Iowa communities and in Wykoff, Spring Valley, Rochester, Albert Lea and Stewartville before moving to Chatfield in 1975. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1966 and was a member of the Eyota American Legion. Mr. Neis was an exterminator with Quality Pest Control Co. before starting Gene's Pest Control in 1980. On Nov. 26, 1963, he married Mavis Musel. She died in 1968. He married Carole Bingham on Nov. 2, 1968, and she preceded him in death in 1992.

Survivors include four sons, Michael (Patty) of Dover, Allan (Tamra) of Chatfield, Tim (Sheila) of Lakeville, Minn., and Thom (Amy) of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren; his mother, Christina Neis of Rochester; three brothers, Ronald (Eloise) of Spring Valley, Raymond Jr. of Rochester and Robert (Lois) of Milwaukee; and two sisters, Maridean (Marv) Fernelius of Okoboji, Iowa, and Rosemary Neis of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister.

A funeral Mass was held April 29, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
