Private pesticide recertification opportunities

Sun, Jan 23rd, 2011
Posted in Agriculture

Farmers needing to renew their Private Pesticide Certification have three options. They can attend a Recertification Workshop instead of retesting; this is the fifth year of this option. Or, they can complete the test as a home study course, the books and test are available at the County Extension Office. The third option is to complete the test on-line at: www.pat.umn.edu. No matter which method you chose, it must be completed by March 1, 2011. If you have let your certification expire or this is your first time certifying, then the test must be taken.

You need to renew your Private Pesticide Applicator Certification if you apply pesticides to land or sites you own, rent or lease for the production of agriculture commodities, plan to use restricted use pesticides, reside in the state of Minnesota, and your certification expires in 2011.

If you chose to attend the three-hour recertification workshop to renew your private pesticide applicator certification in lieu of taking a test, be aware that there are several things you will need. A check for $50 which covers three years (no cash please), and make the check payable to the U of MN. Have two forms of ID with you when attending the workshop, one being a government issued photo ID (driver's license), the second a current Applicators Certification Card (preferred) or other ID such as a credit card, library card or utility bill. The MN Department of Agriculture requires applicators to attend the entire three-hour workshop to receive recertification credit.

Hopefully those of you who need to recertify received a card from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture last month. You may attend at any location. All sessions began at 12:30 pm unless otherwise designated.
