Girls Basketball (2/14 – 2/19)

The Kingsland girls basketball team poses after beating Schaeffer Academy 67-44. The win allowed the SEC-West champion Knights to sweep through league play (13-0). Kingsland has won the last three SEC-West titles, and has won or shared SEC division titles in all four years they’ve been in the conference.

Three Rivers Conference

Caledonia 57, Cotter 74 (Cal: Ava Privet 12 pts; Sadie Treptow 11 pts; Alexis Schroeder 9 pts.  Ramblers built a 38-20 halftime lead, hitting 10 total threes to Cal’s three.  First meeting between teams was won by Cotter in OT 76-71)

La Crescent/Hokah 56, Fillmore Central 48 (FC: Alyssa Britton 16 pts, 11 rebs; Kammry Broadwater 9 pts, 10 rebs, 6 asts, 6 stls; Courtney Hershberger 8 pts.  The game was tied at 48; Lancers scored the final eight points.  Both teams shot under 32% from field, under 20% from deep, and under 60% from FT-line.  FC’s five-game win streak is snapped)

Rushford-Peterson 40, La Crescent/Hokah 53 (R-P: K. Ruberg 13 pts, 9 rebs, 4 asts; Emarie Jacobson 12 pts, 5 rebs.  The Trojans (3-10, 11-15) are 1A’s 6-seed and will host 11-seed SG (10-16))

Fillmore Central 50, Caledonia 79 (C: A. Schroeder 16 pts (4-8 threes); Paige Klug 15 pts (3-5 threes); A. Privet 14 pts (4-5 threes); Josie Foster 9 pts.  FC: K. Broadwater 12 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts, 8 stls; Jersey Ristau 9 pts; A. Britton 8 pts, 6 rebs; Lauren Mensink 7 pts, 8 rebs.  Falcons were 1 of 15 from deep (7%).  Warriors hit 11 threes.  Warriors (8-5, 16-9) are 1AA’s East’s 7-seed, will host 10-seed BP (15-10).  FC (2-11, 11-15) is 1A’s 7-seed and will host 10-seed Randolph (9-17))

Southeast Conference

Houston 61, LeRoy-Ostrander 44 (H: S. Torgerson 23 pts (9-15 FGs, 5-7 FTs), 8 rebs, 8 stls; Lilly Carr 13 pts, 9 rebs, 6 stls; Olivia Beckman 10 pts (3-9 threes), 5 stls.  L-O: S. Volkart 19 pts (7-10, 3-6 threes), 9 rebs; Jordan Runde 12 pts (4-6 FTs).  Offensive rebounds: H 20, L-O 6.  FGs: H 22 of 64 (34%), L-O 15 of 41 (37%).  Houston won its fifth straight)

Mabel-Canton 24, Grand Meadow 56 (GM: McKenna Hendrickson 16 pts (7-12 FGs); River Landers 11 pts (5-7 FGs); Kendyl Queensland 5 pts, 6 asts, 5 stls; L. Foster 7 pts, 6 rebs.  M-C: Katrinda Whalen/Gwen Tollefsrud 6 pts)

Schaeffer Academy 44, Kingsland 67 (K: S. Beck 21 pts (8-16 FGs, 5-10 threes), 6 rebs; Emily Miner 10 pts, 11 rebs; Anika Reiland 7 pts, 10 rebs, 4 stls; Alexys Harwood 8 pts.  Ten Knights scored in the game, as Kingsland wrapped up a perfect SEC season (13-0).  The Knights (13-0, 17-8) are 1A’s 2-seed and will host either AC/GE or S.A.)

Mabel-Canton 34, Lyle/Pacelli 32 (M-C: Kinley Soiney 11 pts, 10 rebs; MaKenzie Kelly 9 pts.  M-C was 8 of 22 from the line (36%).  They led most of the second half by low single digits.  Cougars defended a game-winning and a game-tying shot in the final seconds to preserve victory   M-C(5-8, 8-18) is 1A’s 13-seed, play at 4-seed Lanesboro (17-8))

Spring Grove 74, Lyle/Pacelli 63 (SG: J. Leahy 33 pts (18-21 FTs, 5-8 threes); Katelyn Kraus 15 pts (5-8 FTs, 5-7 FTs), 13 rebs, 5 stls; Addyson McHugh 14 pts (3-8 threes), 8 rebs, 8 stls; Siri Konkel 7 pts (5-6 FTs), 7 asts. SG led by 17, then fell behind by one, then led by 17 again. L/P had a 10-point advantage from the field while SG had a 21-point advantage at the foul line, going 31 of 38 (82%) to 10 of 21 (48%).  Lions scored a season-high points, won fourth straight. SG (7-6, 10-16) is 1A’s 13-seed, will play at 6-seed R-P (11-15))

LeRoy-Ostrander 52, Schaeffer Academy 34 (L-O: S. Volkart 26 pts (9-12 FGs, 4-6 threes, 4-5 FTs), 12 rebs, 5 stls; Gracie O’Byrne 15 pts (5-6 FTs), 6 asts, 6 stls; Benita Nolt 9 pts, 17 rebs.  Volkart hit four threes; the rest of the Cardinals were 0 of 18.  Cardinals snap a 15-game losing streak.  L-O (3-11, 4-22) is 1A’s 16-seed, will host 17-seed USC (1-23))

Non-Conference

Lyle/Pacelli 44, Fillmore Central 75 (FC: M. Simon 20 pts; L. Mensink 14 pts; C. Hershberger 13 pts, 6 stls; Regan Hanson 9 pts (4-4 FTs); A. Britton 7 pts, 9 rebs; K. Broadwater 4 pts, 7 rebs, 6 asts.  FC is 10-4 versus 1A foes) 

Spring Grove 55, Southland 37 (SG: J. Leahy 20 pts (8-13 FGs, 4-6 FTs), 5 rebs; A. McHugh 18 pts, 6 rebs; K. Kraus 6 pts, 12 rebs.  In this non-con game, the Lions completed a season sweep, outshooting the Rebs 40% (23 of 58) to 24% from the field.)

Houston 45, Pine Island 61 (H: Ashtyn Meyer 12 pts (5-7 FGs), 7 rebs; S. Torgerson 10 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asts; L. Carr 8 pts, 7 rebs.  Houston hit just 3 of 16 threes (19%).  Hurricanes five game win streak is snapped)

Alden-Conger/G-E 30, Grand Meadow 64 (GM: L. Queensland 27 pts (11-18 FGs, 5-5 threes), 11 rebs, 4 asts; R. Landers 12 pts, 4 stls.  It was the 11th time this year GM held a foe at or under 30 points)

Houston 44, Randolph 55 (H: S. Torgerson 25 pts (9-15 FGs), 9 rebs, 5 stls; L. Carr 9 pts (3-4 threes).  Hurricanes went 6 of 31 (19%) from deep.  Houston (9-4, 15-11) is 1A’s 8-seed and will host 9-seed Faribault B.A. (11-13))
