Dagny Anderson, 97, passed away peacefully at Park Lane Estates in Preston on January 28, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Dagny Theoline Topness was born to Theodore and Dorthea (Iverson) Topness on August 20, 1920, in rural Whalan, Minn. On May 27, 1941, she married Orville Leroy Anderson at the Highland Prairie parsonage near Bratsburg. The couple lived in California for two years before moving back to rural Whalan where they raised two children. Dagny and Orville farmed until they opened the Anderson Variety Store in the mid-1960s in Lanesboro. Then, in 1968, the couple began Anderson Greenhouse. Dagny and Orville operated the greenhouse until Orville’s death in 1976. Dagny and her twin sister, Doris, dedicated five years to working at Rush Products before their retirement in 1983.
Dagny was a member of the Elstad Lutheran Church and shared her faith and love for family with all she met. Dagny was an avid quilter, loved to crochet, and always enjoyed her daily midday coffee and sweets followed by watching her favorite T.V. show Days of Our Lives. Her grandchildren remember fondly the Norwegian baking she always had on hand when they came to visit. Dagny also enjoyed talking on the telephone to her family and friends to let them know she was thinking of them and loved them. Dagny was loved very much by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and is remembered as a very loving mother and grandmother.
Dagny is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Tom) Smith of Lanesboro and Dorothy (Jerry) Evenson, also of Lanesboro; seven grandchildren, Scott (Annette) Evenson of Harmony, Kim (Jerome) Halvorson of Lanesboro, Dawn (Jerry) Steffes of La Crescent, Susie (Sterling) Stoker of Henderson, Nev., John (Brittany) Smith of Whalan, Lori (Jeremy) Keller of Rochester, and Heidi Evenson (Bill Fishbaugher) of Canton; great-grandchildren: Khala, Angel, Kiah, Brandy, Ryan, Madalyn, Cooper, Oakley; and a great-grandchild due in April.
Dagny is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1976, four brothers, two sisters, and an infant daughter.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 1, at 11 a.m. at Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, with Pastor Luther Mathsen officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal will be in the church cemetery. Those wishing may contribute in Dagny’s memory to the Elstad Lutheran Church.
