Cal/SG boys sweep top five places in 100-meter dash

The Caledonia/Spring Grove boys swept the first five places in the 100-meter dash at the Cinco de Mayo Meet, hosted by La Crescent-Hokah on May 5. Josh Beardmore won two individual events and ran on the wining 4×100-meter relay. Tysen Grinde won two events along with a third place while Fischer Wait claimed one win and another runner-up finish. That made six winning efforts for the meet, which was not scored for team points. Competing were five teams: host La Crescent-Hokah, Cal/SG, Winona Cotter, La Crosse Logan and Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland/Southland. The Warrior girls had a pair of third-place finishes.

Among 26 sprinters at 100 meters, it was an amazing Warrior sweep with Beardmore (11.48 seconds) first, Wait (11.65) second, Eli Staggemeyer third, Owen Staggemeyer fourth and Gabe Curley fifth. Running on the winning 4x100M relay were Beardmore, Staggemeyer, Staggemeyer and Curley.

Beardmore also won the long jump at 21 feet, 05.25 inches, which ranks among the top 10 all-time leaps at this meet. Wait won the 400-meter dash at 50.39 seconds, another top-10 all-time achievement.

Grinde won two jumping events – triple jump with a personal-record 39 feet, 10.5 inches and his third-straight high jump win, matching his personal-best 6 feet, 2 inches. He also placed third among 17 long jumpers.

There was throwing success as well with both Ethan Crouch and Jordan Tornstrom taking runner-up honors. Crouch was second among 25 shot putters and Tornstrom placed second among 26 discus athletes. Mason Banse was fourth in discus while Tyler Stendel and Tristan Meyer were sixth and seventh in shot put.

Back on the track, Owen Klug was fourth among 19 sprinting 200 meters. In a three-team race, the Warrior boys took second in the 4x200M relay with legs run by Gabe Curley, Lyle Myhre, Eric Maus and Jason Schock.

Girls
Nicole Banse placed third among 24 girls in the 200M dash and fifth among 16 long jumpers (14-6.5). Taking third in the 4x100M relay were Banse, Kloe Jore, Lexi Peters and Breana VanGundy. There were 23 shot putters with Jessie Stendel placing sixth (27-01.5) and Campbell Cognac seventh (26-08.75).
