To the Editor,
There is a group of people (the Kurds) who have been fighting mightily for years as our allies against ISIS, a barbaric religiously extreme group of people in Syria and Iraq. The ISIS group cuts off American heads and is our terrorist enemy, remember?
On October 6, President Erdogan of Turkey asked President Trump to withdraw several dozen of our soldiers who were working with the Kurds to fight the ISIS remnants along the Turkish border in northern Syria. The next day President Trump did as he was told, despite howls of protest within the United States about abandoning our long-time very helpful friends. With the American soldiers in retreat, Turkey brutally attack the Kurds. Many ISIS terrorists who were jailed there have escaped in the chaos. President Trump said that he is fulfilling his campaign promise to “end these endless wars” in the middle east. On October 11, Trump sent 1,800 more U.S. troops to help Saudi Arabia. So much for “ending the endless wars.”
Saudi Arabia has a repressive religiously extreme government. Saudi agents killed and cut into pieces the journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year. How exactly is this making America great again?
